Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has lambasted the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for allegedly inciting youths against the rule of law.
Governor Umahi, who spoke during a press conference in Abakaliki, accused Obi of making inflammatory statements that could spark violence and destabilize the country.
"Peter Obi should avoid inciting youths against the rule of law. His statements are capable of sparking violence and destabilizing the country", Umahi said.
The Ebonyi State Governor also accused Obi of being a "bad loser", who is unable to accept defeat in good faith. "Obi is a bad loser, who is unable to accept defeat in good faith. He is now resorting to inciting youths against the rule of law", Umahi said.
Umahi's comments come after Obi had criticized the recent fine imposed on WhatsApp by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Obi had described the fine as "draconian" and "anti-people".
However, Umahi defended the NCC's decision, saying it was in line with the country's data protection regulations. "The NCC's decision to fine WhatsApp is in line with our data protection regulations. It is not draconian or anti-people as Obi has claimed", Umahi said.
The Ebonyi State Governor also accused Obi of lacking understanding of the country's data protection laws. "Obi lacks understanding of our data protection laws. He should educate himself before making inflammatory statements", Umahi said.
Umahi's comments have sparked a heated debate on social media, with many Nigerians taking sides. While some have supported Umahi's comments, others have criticized him for attacking Obi.
In conclusion, the spat between Umahi and Obi highlights the deepening political divisions in Nigeria. With the 2023 elections fast approaching, it remains to be seen how these divisions will play out. One thing is certain, however - the Nigerian people will be watching closely.
