Gunmen open fire on police officers at Owo checkpoint in Ondo

Gunmen attacked a police checkpoint at Ipele Junction in Owo, Ondo State, injuring two police officers and a female civilian, Taiwo, who was hit by stray bullets. The attackers, numbering three, arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on the officers of the Safer Highway Patrol while they were on routine duty. The police team responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to flee, and one suspect, Nwabali, was arrested at the scene along with the motorcycle used in the attack.

The Ondo State Police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the attack as "tragic and condemnable" and commended the officers for their bravery and prompt response, which prevented further casualties. The injured victims are receiving medical care, and investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplices ¹ ² ³.
