Rivers: Wike, allies rule out support for Fubara’s second-term bid

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara's bid for a second term is facing opposition from Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his allies. Wike has stated that Fubara's defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) doesn't guarantee him a second term, emphasizing that an agreement was made during their peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu ¹ ² ³.

Wike's supporters, including Kelechi Nwogu, have ruled out backing Fubara's re-election, with Nwogu stating that Omuma Local Government Area won't support him if he seeks a second term. Wike has also criticized Fubara's claim of being the "001" of APC in Rivers State, saying it's unfounded and questioning his leadership capacity ² ³.

The feud between Wike and Fubara stems from a power struggle, with Wike allegedly pushing for control of commissioner slots and local government chairpersons. Fubara's defection to APC has added fuel to the fire, sparking speculation about shifting power dynamics in Rivers State ⁴ ¹.
