‘They can’t eternally fight our battles’ – Shehu Sani reacts to Trump’s military strikes in Nigeria

Former Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the US military strikes on terrorists in Nigeria, saying the action is justified if it was a joint operation with Nigerian authorities. However, he warned that Nigeria shouldn't rely on foreign powers for its security, emphasizing that "the ultimate security and peace in our country lies with ourselves" ¹ ² ³.

Sani described terrorists as "cancerous cells" in the country, affecting communities and national unity. He rejected claims that terrorists target only one faith, saying such narratives are "absolutely false and misleading" ¹.

The US strikes, approved by President Donald Trump, targeted ISIS militants in northwest Nigeria, particularly in Sokoto state. Nigerian authorities confirmed the operation, stating it was part of ongoing security cooperation with international partners ⁴.

Sani's reaction underscores concerns about Nigeria's reliance on external military intervention rather than strengthening domestic security capabilities.
