The Minority Caucus report on alleged alterations in the Tax Reforms Acts has been overtaken by events, according to the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese. The report, which claimed that there were discrepancies in the gazetted versions of the tax laws, has been addressed by the release of the Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the laws ¹ ² ³.
The House of Representatives, led by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, had ensured the public release of the authentic versions of the four tax reform Acts as passed by the National Assembly and assented to by the President. Agbese stated that the concerns raised regarding discrepancies in the tax laws have been comprehensively addressed by the House leadership, and the release of the CTCs has settled the matter ¹ ².
The Minority Caucus had alleged that key provisions of the tax laws were illegally altered after being passed by the National Assembly and assented to by the President. However, Agbese maintained that the corrective measures implemented made further controversy unnecessary ⁴ ¹.
