In a major breakthrough, operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested a suspected serial killer who has been on the run after being declared wanted in Ebonyi State for a string of brutal murders.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, paraded the suspect before newsmen on Monday, April 27, 2026, at his office in Yenagoa, revealing that the suspect is the mastermind behind a gang responsible for a wave of violence that shook Ebonyi State.
According to the Commissioner, the chilling list of the suspect’s alleged victims includes high-profile figures:
· CSO Sunday Osule
· Hon. Ifeanyi Odah, a serving councillor
· Peter Ogenyi (also known as ‘Omega’)
· HRH Eze Douglas, a revered traditional ruler
The arrest comes after weeks of intense manhunt by the police. CP Edebor confirmed that the Ebonyi State Command’s Crack Squad, which had previously declared the suspect wanted, has been duly notified of the arrest.
Ongoing Investigation
While the suspect is now in police custody, the Commissioner assured the public that the investigation is still active. "We are leaving no stone unturned," CP Edebor stated, hinting that more members of the gang may still be at large.
Residents of both Bayelsa and Ebonyi states have been urged to remain calm as security agencies work to unravel the full extent of the suspect’s criminal network.
Background
The arrest brings a glimmer of hope to the families of the victims, especially the community of the slain traditional ruler, HRH Eze Douglas, whose death had previously sparked tension in his domain. Similarly, the murder of Hon. Ifeanyi Odah, a sitting councillor, had been condemned as a direct assault on the democratic institution.
More details on this developing story are expected as the investigation progresses.
