No Family Should Endure Such Pain" – Senator Ireti Kingibe Heartbroken Over Killing of NYSC Member by Soldiers

Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has poured out her heart over the tragic death of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Abdulsamad Jamiu, who was allegedly killed by Nigerian soldiers.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves across the nation, occurred when troops of the Guards Brigade Quick Response Group were on a routine night patrol. According to preliminary reports, the soldiers were responding to a distress call following an armed robbery attack in the area when the unfortunate shooting took place.

"Deeply Saddened and Heartbroken"

In an emotional statement issued on Monday, April 27, Senator Kingibe did not hold back her grief.

"I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the tragic death of Abdulsamad Jamiu, a young Nigerian who lost his life in an unfortunate incident involving personnel of the Nigerian Army," she said.

The Senator described the loss as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need for heightened caution and professionalism in all security operations.

She noted that while preliminary reports suggest an accidental shooting, the consequences remain devastating and irreversible.

A Message to the Family

Directly addressing the grieving parents and loved ones of the deceased, Kingibe wrote:

"My thoughts and prayers are with the parents, family, and loved ones of the deceased. The grief of losing a child under such circumstances is unimaginable, and as a nation, we share in their sorrow. No family should have to endure such pain, especially when their child was serving the country with dedication under the National Youth Service Corps scheme."

Demands for Justice and Reform

While acknowledging the Nigerian Army's response to the incident, the Senator insisted that more is needed.

"Beyond response, there must be a thorough, transparent, and accountable investigation to ensure that justice is served and that lessons are learned," she demanded.

Kingibe used the tragedy to call for systemic changes, including:

· Strengthening rules of engagement for security personnel.
· Improving coordination between security agencies and civilians.
· Ensuring that young Nigerians, especially corps members, are adequately protected at all times.

"Preventable incidents such as this must never be allowed to happen again," she stressed.

Senator's Pledge

As the FCT Senator, Kingibe pledged to continue engaging relevant authorities to push for reforms that prioritize citizen safety and restore public confidence in security institutions.

She concluded with a somber prayer: "May the soul of Abdulsamad Jamiu rest in peace, and may God grant his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss."
