The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied fixing dates for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections, calling reports circulating online "false and misleading" ¹ ² ³.
According to INEC, the commission operates strictly within the provisions of the law, specifically Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires publishing a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the general election. Any timetable or schedule issued outside this framework cannot emanate from INEC.
The commission assures Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election will be released in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution and Electoral Act. When released, it will be communicated through verified channels ¹ ².
