Obi Can't Be VP, It's Undemocratic - Dele Momodu Slashes Utomi

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has criticized political economist Professor Pat Utomi for insisting that former Anambra State governor Peter Obi should not accept a vice-presidential slot in the party's 2027 coalition, calling it undemocratic.

Momodu expressed surprise at Utomi's stance, arguing it lacked political realism and democratic spirit. "Anyone insisting that Obi cannot run behind anyone is definitely not a Democrat who wishes to rescue Nigeria from one-man dictatorship," Momodu wrote on his verified X account ¹ ² ³.

Momodu recalled how Obi gained national prominence in 2019 when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar selected him as his running mate. He urged Obi to be a humble party man, emphasizing that political success in Nigeria requires pragmatism.

Utomi had warned he'd withdraw support for Obi if he accepted a VP role, but Momodu disagreed, citing the APC's choice of Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Yemi Osinbajo as an example of prioritizing electability ⁴ ⁵ ⁶.
