Kwara Killing: Southern Governors Condemn Attack, Call for Justice

The Southern Governors' Forum has condemned the recent terrorist attack in Kwara State, which left at least 162 people dead in the villages of Woro and Nuku. The governors, led by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, described the attack as "senseless violence that must be nipped in the bud" and called on security agencies to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice ¹ ² ³.

The attack, reportedly carried out by members of the Islamist sect Lakurawa believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram, targeted residents who allegedly refused to adopt Sharia law. The governors emphasized that Nigeria is a secular state that respects freedom of religion and warned against imposing religious practices through violence ⁴ ⁵.

"We urge the security agencies to intensify their operations against the perpetrators of this terrible incident and bring them to book," Abiodun said. "They must never get away with this. They must be hunted down and dealt with severely" ¹ ².

The governors extended their condolences to the Kwara State Government and families of the victims, describing the incident as a "tragic and unfortunate act" that underscores the growing threat of terrorism in Nigeria ³ ⁴.
