Troops Recover 529 Rustled Animals from Terrorists in Katsina


The Nigerian Army's 17 Brigade in Katsina has successfully recovered 529 rustled livestock after a fierce gun battle with suspected terrorists in Kafur Local Government Area. The operation, led by Lt-Col. M.M. Isa, was carried out on February 7, 2026, targeting terrorists who infiltrated the state from neighboring Zamfara ¹ ² ³.

The recovered animals include 290 cows, 238 sheep, and one donkey, as well as one motorcycle. Unfortunately, 14 cows were killed during the exchange of fire after the terrorists used them as shields. The troops showed professionalism and combat effectiveness, with no casualties reported.

The General Officer Commanding 8-Division, Maj-Gen. Paul Koughna, praised the troops' gallantry and reassured residents of sustained military operations against criminal elements in the area. The recovered animals have been handed over to relevant authorities for identification and return to their rightful owners ¹ ².
