Four police officers have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force over their alleged involvement in the killing of seven traders at Owode Onirin, Lagos, in August 2025. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed the dismissal, stating that the officers were brought from Nasarawa by the principal suspect, Ariori, and were involved in the unlawful killings ¹ ² ³.
The incident occurred during a clash between land grabbers and traders, and investigations are ongoing, with 98% completed. The police have assured the public of justice, citing ballistic and autopsy reports guiding prosecution. "We will leave no stone unturned and will not be intimidated by anyone. All suspects will face prosecution, and the courts remain open to hear every case," Jimoh said ¹ ⁴.
The Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights had earlier criticized the handling of the case, alleging police impunity and cover-up. The rights group demanded the immediate re-arrest and prosecution of the officers and Ariori ⁵.
