Senator Ali Ndume has confirmed the killing of civilians, soldiers, and terrorists in Ngoshe, a community in Borno State, following an attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday evening, has left an unspecified number of people dead, with over 100 missing or abducted. The Chief Imam of Ngoshe and some elders and soldiers were among those killed ¹ ² ³.
Thousands of civilians, mostly women and children, have been displaced and are currently taking refuge in Pulka community. The military base was dislodged, with some major equipment destroyed, including residential houses and property worth millions of naira set ablaze.
Ndume has called for intensified military operations in the Sambisa Forests and the Mandara Mountains to curb the activities of insurgents in southern Borno. He also urged President Bola Tinubu to equip security agencies with fighter jets and other technological weapons to end the lingering terrorist activities ¹ ⁴.
The senator lamented the inadequate equipment available to troops at the frontlines, alleging that security forces lack sufficient Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and other advanced weapons. He commended the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Borno State government under Governor Babagana Zulum for their sacrifices in the fight against insurgency ² ⁵.
