The Kano State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust. The impeachment notice, presented by Majority Leader Lawan Dala, cites Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution and has been signed by 38 lawmakers ¹ ² ³.
The allegations against Gwarzo include:
- *Financial Impropriety*: Receiving kickbacks totaling N462 million from local government councils between June 2023 and January 2024
- *Abuse of Office*: Facilitating improper payments of N440 million to NovoMed Pharmaceuticals Limited, violating procurement laws
- *Breach of Public Trust*: Receiving N726 million under the guise of special assignments from February to July 2024
Gwarzo has been given two weeks to respond to the allegations. The move is seen as a result of his refusal to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with Governor Abba Yusuf, choosing to remain with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) instead ¹ ⁴ ⁵.
